Theory tested. And proven.

I just wanted to see what it would be like to join a tourney and not play a single hand, so I joined the Europe Freeroll to test this "strategy". After sitting and watching myself "away" I finally ended the tournament placing 20th. I'm sure I could have probably placed higher had I not been intentionally bet off blinds, but I just had to see how far I would get. Utterly ridiculous. Something seriously needs to be done. People that were actually playing ranked lower than me and I think it's total bullshit. Sorry to all of you players that really DID want to play, but I just had to see for myself. Also, have a look at this:

If the players who were actually playing decided to play strategically, then they could have easily finished above you. There is nothing wrong with people sitting away in my opinion and I would gladly welcome it when i'm playing in tournaments.

Maybe I would rather base my strategy around playing poker, and not about looking at an afk table and finding the best way to steal blinds.

Yes and so would I Geoff, but when the opportunity is there, take it.

What opportunity? Seriously. It's bullshit. PROVEN bullshit. Oh wait. I got it now!!! You must be one of those that sits out!!!! HAAA!!! That's why you see nothing wrong with it. Whatever.

I've never sat out of a tournament.. It's like you lot have some theory that sitting out wins the tournaments. Get over it and take the blinds.

So, you sit out, get your stack eaten away with the blinds and fail to cash. Well no surprise there.

If players sit out it's fine by me, free chips and less competition. Every little helps to make the final table.

I really don't comprehend all the fuss about away players.

If I could play cash tourneys against 'away players' I would be very rich indeed!

Not everyone is sitting out on purpose. I had an emergency come up and had to leave the house. I had signed up but couldn't play. I, too finished in the 20s somewhere.

My point being, there should be a way of unjoining for cases like this. It would free up the seat for someone else.

Personally, I can't see the point in paying the entry fee with an absolute certainty of not winning. That's what happens when a person is away for any lenghth of time. At some point, even if you have some chips, it's too few to get you back on top.

My 2 cents.

but when there is 6 ppl away on one table, it can spoil your own game... especially when you get someone going all in the time because the others are away.
