I was struck, though, by a profound jadedness that seemed to show in his every step. He was a mere 29 at the time the show was recorded but already he treated the cooking process with a sort of complacency, like a husband treats his wife a year or two on from the honeymoon. The courtship is over; the malaise of married life has set in. He salted the fois gras like he was telling his wife he loved her - more out of a sense of duty than any real conviction. The salmon was cooked with as much enthusiasm as one approaches intercourse with a wrinkly old wife. Like so many geniuses before him, Marco had propelled himself to escape velocity only to be thwarted by gravity and sucked back down into the mud, blood, and trash of earth. Myerlyn, how does it feel to have spent all that precious thought on a GPokr hand when the very same result can regularly be achieved by starting out with an all-in bet and then having a wank while you wait for the cards to fall? |
