If your web development team has ever made a change to the files that comprise your live website, they may have asked you to â??clear your cacheâ?? afterwards.
Well, what the heck does that mean? (Editor's note: Updated July 2014 with new instructions.) What is my "cache" and why should I clear it? Any sophisticated website you visit is actually a composition of dozens, hundreds or even thousands of files. Even websites supremely optimized for speed are likely loading tons of files at once to display content in your browser. Browsers try to do their part to speed up the loading process. The first time you visit a site, your browser will â??saveâ?? pieces of the site. Because your browser can display the files stored in its cache much faster than it can pull fresh files from a server, the next time you visit that site, the use of cached files will help cut down page load time. It sounds like cache is a good thing, why have you asked me to remove those saved files? Many times web developers have to make updates to the files that comprise your site in order to push a change or new feature live. If we change a file that your browser has cached, itâ??s going to keep serving the old, cached version of the file and you wonâ??t see our most recent change. Thatâ??s why we ask you to clear your cache. How do I clear my cache? The process of clearing cache differs from browser to browser. Generally speaking, look for an option to delete cache or temporary files in your browserâ??s administrative settings. Instructions for clearing cache in Internet Explorer If you have Internet Explorer 9 or 10 click the gear icon in the top right. â?¢ Go to Internet Options. â?¢ On the General tab under Browsing History, select "Delete." â?¢ Select only "Temporary Internet Files." â?¢ Click the "Delete" button. In Internet Explorer 7 or 8: â?¢ Go to Tools > Internet Options. â?¢ On the General Tab under Browsing History, select "Delete Files." â?¢ Delete Temporary Internet Files. Instructions for clearing cache in Firefox â?¢ Go to Tools > Clear Recent History or Clear Private Data. â?¢ Select only â??cache.â?? â?¢ For â??Time Range to Clear,â?? choose "Everything." â?¢ Select "Clear Now." clear-cache-in-chrome.jpgInstructions for clearing cache in Chrome â?¢ Click on the Settings button in the top right of the browser. (It looks like a wrench or three horizontal lines). â?¢ Select Clear Browsing Data. (In later versions of Chrome, go to Tools > Clear Browsing Data). â?¢ Select only "Empty the Cache." â?¢ In the dropdown that reads "Obliterate the following items from" select "the beginning of time." â?¢ Click the "Clear Browsing Data" button. Instructions for clearing cache in Safari â?¢ Go to Develop > Empty Caches. Looking for a shortcut? If youâ??re a fan of using keyboard shortcuts to get around, Control, Shift, Delete (for Windows) or Command Shift Delete (for Mac) will open the configuration pane to clear cache in any browser. What do I do after Iâ??ve cleared my cache? Remember, after clearing your cache in any browser, it is a good idea to do a restart in your computer |

at 8:01 AM, Wednesday August 26, 2015 EDT Ok. But since i get the exact same lagging issues using the IOS app as I do on the browsers, what should I do for that?
(I often will have the same session open on two different devices to see which recovers from lag first. They invariably both lag at the same time so the lag is clearly not device/browser/app specific.) |

at 1:40 PM, Wednesday August 26, 2015 EDT That's right dorkupine, a clear example its the SITE most of the time and NOT players personal computer
I Often have 4 or 5 different browsers open and the only one to ever lag is gpokr IF YOU CLEAR CACHE OR NOT (i have tried both over several days) there is absolutely no difference in the fact there is no lag on other sites but still lag on gpokr. This is just ryans way of deflecting the pressure from him to get it right on to you (the player) |

at 2:33 PM, Wednesday August 26, 2015 EDT @Pebble ... I wasn't suggesting anything by this post. If you read it, it was an explanation of why a mod might tell you this. Ryan has updated a lot of files and it is important to do this once he has done it. Try reading the article again, it clearly states why. This has helped some players lately and just a suggestion. As far as lag, I have had very little lately.

at 2:14 PM, Monday August 31, 2015 EDT greg, I wasn't using a browser on ios. I was using the Gpokr APP.
It is standalone, and does not seem to have anything along the lines of a cache that can be cleared. As far as I know i've had the most recent version of the app. |
