Gpokr I'm proud to say is one of the few places where people from all over the world can share their ideas in the forum and over a poker table. I don't always agree with the opinions stated but I like hearing a little of how the world views my country as a whole. all I can say is keep it coming. I prefer being an enlightened american rather than an ignorant one... Rob S.

Well Rob I'm sure you know that even those citizens of the USA allies are somewhat pissed off with foreign policy. And some non allies e.g. Iraqis are absolutely furious at the oil motivated invasion and the subsequent efforts to keep that country in a state of turmoil. As a general rule of thumb, parents really prefer that the limbs of their offspring remain intact. Unfortunately this basic human right seems to fall outside of current and past policy in Iraq. Which is a shame because children always look so much more wholesome with 2 arms and 2 legs located at shoulder and hip respectively.

If past endeavours in Afghanistan are anything to go by the good 'ol US of A will pull out of another failed mission there while claiming some sort of twisted euphemistic success. Let?s all hope the pullout occurs before the corpses pile up too high.

The current election is again the same farcical, big business, mega money merry-go-round. And you know what, it won't matter who gets in because the same plans will be carried out anyway. Your basic human rights will continue to be erased with laws like the Patriot Act and Homeland security while the populace worry about the price of gas, the World Series, super bowl and what's on TV.

What particularly worries me is the rapid rise in Christian Fundamentalism, especially in politics. I'm mean everybody relies on science; they trust the medicines to work and trust the airplanes to work because they know that the science has put these through intense scrutiny. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the blessed religion that cannot endure one second of minor rational scrutiny. ?Well it's in the ancient texts so it must be true, right?? It's like a scene off Star Gate, but in this terrifying case the fiction is believed to be fact.

Oh and then there is the National deficit which is due to wreck the global economy anytime soon. Now I'm aware that many US citizens don't give a damn about the rest of the world (unless you can sell arms there or steal oil) because most have never been overseas. The enlightened ones that have ventured beyond the borders have realised that we are much like you. But the majority just repeat 'why should we give a damn about them'. Well truth is we're all in this mess together, like it or not, except USA with all its power fails miserably again and again when it comes to doing the right thing.

Don't get me wrong. I actually love the people of the USA having spent much of my adult life there. But the people seem to be asleep, apathetic or gullible to government ploys and as such are rendered impotent.

You should be rallying in Washington in tens of thousands to end your wars, to stop selling arms to tyrants around the globe and to push for the supply of food and clean water for ALL that need it. Just imagine the seismic shift in global consciousness if America ceased its oil grabbing and war making and embraced a policy of global benevolence. It would bring all developed nations rallying to the cause almost overnight and change attitudes of fear and mistrust just as quickly. I can only dream of the mighty USA using it's might to usher in a golden age of enlightenment.

Peace to all

Rant over

I wish there were more "Moderate" Republicans. Alas, it seems like the other 9 categories have taken over.

I'd like to thank El Brujo for the post. Your comments are astute although a little altruistic. I don't totally agree that the american people are asleep but there is a lot of apathy because the ruling parties(notice the plural) are both very much alike. Both parties in power abuse the positions they've been granted through election by overspending and writing bad checks to enrich their favorite causes. We as a people are starting to wake up but the overall feeling of helplessness, a do nothing cause you can't change it attitude is an epidemic in the United States and a lot of other countries as well. As to the global economy....if AIG had failed last week that would have been a stark reality rather than a supposition. Arms sales to tyrants is a worldwide booming business with China, Russia, and France arm an arm with the US waiting for the orders. Your wake up call for us to change our ways needs to be a cry globally for change not a limited directed condemnation of the US. We live on planet earth and we're all humans. Perhaps one day we will realize that we are truly one species.

Impatient, the youtube video is a jolly jape and quite an nice analysis. Nice one.

Country Girl, whilst I think you're a nice person and enjoy your cross table chat, you're comments makes no sense at all.

Rob S., thanks for your well thought out reply, you made some good points. Appreciated. The bid arms dealers; USA, China, Russia, UK and France are somewhat akin to the crack dealers in the projects (or council estates as we call them). They take the view that if we don't sell the weapons someone else will cash in, a degrading and shameful approach.
You're comment about a global call for change is very true and I would dearly like to see this happen. I singled out the USA for two reasons. First was that your post asked for views concerning the USA, I would be glad to comment on the policies of other nation states. The second was because the USA is the planets only superpower at the moment and as such could make the biggest single contribution.

Country Girl, please listen to the testement of a young man who has served in Iraq. You can find it hear...

If you are the least bit open minded you will find his eye witness accounts somewhat interesting.

Be careful of being too proud. Pride is one of those nasty seven deadly sins.

Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Very well said El Bruno. I went to the youtube site and it is indeed sobering. Hart Viges' account truly illustrates how many of the innocent civillians are not being aided, but in fact randomly killed by mortars etc. I also have been disturbed by reports from the ABC re the use of uranium in the bombs used in Afghanistan. Apparently the level of radiation in the populace is 200 times the normal range and a large proportion of the babies are born with tumours and deformities.

I dont think that is quite the life they want CG, and it is definitely not even close to the life we live.

I prefer an insular America, where the only ones who venture abroad are tourists loaded with cash...ideally with a built in mute button.

Change the focus of your christianity guys, charity not crusades.
