"AWAY" players at tourneys

I started playing the tourneys recently and noticed that “away” players still get cards unlike in the regular games. I’ve even lost money to aways. I think that players that are away at the start of a hand should not get cards. Last night was worse. A player got up early and then went away and waited for players to go in and then jumped back in when he had a good hand and then raised. They did this at least twice. On one hand I went in only because this player, downwind from me, was away and I thought I only had to play one other player for the pot and then they jumped in and raised at the last second. They had a pair and won the pot. I would have folded if they weren’t away. This tactic may not be technically illegal but to me is cheating and chickenshit. This player went on to win the tourney.
I think they should change the rules so that if you are “away” you simply don’t get dealt any cards, period. Until this is changed watch out for rayadidas5 when you play in the tourneys. |

at 10:39 PM, Friday January 9, 2009 EST This is a very hot subject. Many think awayers should be out after a set amount of time. And I am one. I have seen awayers who havent played a hand at all win a place. I still dont understand that once there as been a raise they are still in and can win. At least in your situation the person did play in no matter what tactics he or she had in mind.

at 8:32 AM, Saturday January 10, 2009 EST I think 3 missed hands then your out! I know sometimes the unexpected happens and for whatever reason some people cannot make the tourneys they signed up for but there is nothin worse than being knocked out just before the postion to win chips by an 'away' player! It happens too often!
Please sort it Ryan :) |

at 1:29 PM, Saturday January 10, 2009 EST I agree with vikki. The most away players are doing it to avoid playing and losing. I think that if you are away over a set number of hands you ought to be disqualified and removed from the tournament

at 1:57 PM, Saturday January 10, 2009 EST How it should be:
If a player doesn't call or raise a bet (because they're away) they should be auto-folded so that if they were in BB or SB they can't win a portion of the pot. In real tourneys it is a fairly common practice for players sit out when the blinds are low. If the 'away' players are paying the blinds but are auto-folded for failing to act they should not be automatically booted out because they've paid for their seat and they are paying for their cards. That's fair don't you think? |
