Ryan, it's becoming rather tedious and somewhat exacerbating, as to how you seemingly have persistent issues regarding the hosting of a site with the now customary technical flaws.
What exactly is the problem with your site? Do you not have the technical knowledge to rectify the fundamental issues that you seem to ignore. If not, then is it not therefore advisable to seek counsel from a more erudite authority? What is with the lag? Why can you not resolve it? Are you paying for a very cheap server, because if you're not then someone is indubitably laughing at you all the way to the bank. Having just playing in a tournament, it now seems ostensible that I have wasted my time and 10k in chips (though the latter less important than the former) almost exclusively due to lag.....what a complete waste of time that tournament was......the blame can surely only be put firmly on your door step Ryan. There are several players here who have signed up for tournaments only for them to fail to take place meaning the players lose their entry fee in chips and, yet again, wasting their time waiting for it to commence. A few weeks ago, the Vrijdag Vijfs never started and people lost their chips and time. Several of us spoke of this on the forum, as have others in conjunction with other tournaments, yet not only do the issues never get resolved, you don't seem to have the common decency to respond in any constructive way. It is this benighted and feckless attitude that makes me feel less and less like spending my free time on this technically substandard web site. Will you display the appropriate decorum to this post and make a comprehensive response? Or will you show your increasingly insouciant, impervious attitude towards your clients? Please consider the satisfaction and enjoyment of your client base, and please reply with candor and diligence before making your considered and arrant response. |

I sincerely appreciate your response regarding my perhaps somewhat wanton disquietude towards the site. It can often be your seeming lack of interest towards these issues that can grate almost as much as the issues themselves, so to read your considered reply was veritably appreciated and warmly received. However, I still must point to the fact that the "lag" problem is one that continues to mar the enjoyment of the site much to the chagrin of a seemingly large number of players. It could perhaps be posited that this can sometimes have a deleterious affect on the clients themselves, resulting in abusive comments on the forum and obstreperous behaviour on the tables. L.R.Shadowplay quite rightly pointed out that "those banners and adds on top and side of the page are a revenue source for Ryan. The higher the traffic the better his return from the sale of ad space. It is not unreasonable to expect a little more direct response from him when these issues plague the site" Whilst being most appreciative of the work you do put into the site, I am also aware that it is not purely a labour of love, as that would seem futile upon your part. It is surely in your interests to meliorate the site and address the aforementioned problems, both for client satisfaction and irrefutably for the increase and retention of traffic. I do enjoy playing here, though much to do with the people who use the site, and having played nigh on 20,000 or more hands here in the last year and a half does suggest a fondness of gpokr on my part! That said, the actual playing experience would surely be abundantly enriched should you manage to discover a resolution to the apparently random "lag" issue. Many thanks again for your response Ryan. |

at 12:55 PM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST I've had my share of lag issues here as well, so I did some investigating.
As it turned out +/- 70% of all cases I had lag, it was caused by The Internet. Either my own connection was acting up, or one of the 18 routers in between. So, I suggest that anyone who has lag to first check his connectivity (mtr rules http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/). Now, I also registered some lag at times nothing was wrong with the connection. Seemingly caused by a bug or bad server performance. These things can also get monitored: profile your code, monitor your server, make sure it has enough memory and never swaps like crazy, etc. anyway, havent had much lag lately... |
