"AWAY" players at tourneys

I started playing the tourneys recently and noticed that “away” players still get cards unlike in the regular games. I’ve even lost money to aways. I think that players that are away at the start of a hand should not get cards. Last night was worse. A player got up early and then went away and waited for players to go in and then jumped back in when he had a good hand and then raised. They did this at least twice. On one hand I went in only because this player, downwind from me, was away and I thought I only had to play one other player for the pot and then they jumped in and raised at the last second. They had a pair and won the pot. I would have folded if they weren’t away. This tactic may not be technically illegal but to me is cheating and chickenshit. This player went on to win the tourney.
I think they should change the rules so that if you are “away” you simply don’t get dealt any cards, period. Until this is changed watch out for rayadidas5 when you play in the tourneys. |

at 11:03 PM, Tuesday January 13, 2009 EST Ok, I do not claim to be an expert at this game by any means, however, I have played a few tournaments and seen several people who are away. Is there a way where you can just not deal them any cards or kick them off the table after about 3 away hands in a row?
Or better yet, make them pay big blind each hand even if they are sitting out. This will definitely get rid of the away people and let those who want to play be given a fair chance. |

at 6:56 AM, Wednesday January 14, 2009 EST Really the awayers are annoying! Any for a tourney that has 15 players, chances are they DO make the final table. I like Ryan's suggestion of 5 hands in a row and you pay BB every hand. Any all in is a coin toss. It is crappy when I have seen an away last through 3 all ins. But that is poker...and the better end of the coin toss. :)
But any and everyone can do the same thing as an awayer. Fold every hand!! Which is what most of these ppl should just do. It is merely that they are not confident...so please Ryan, make the change of 5 hands in a row away then they pay BB. Really its all about self control. Support better play by implementing this! |
