"AWAY" players at tourneys

I started playing the tourneys recently and noticed that “away” players still get cards unlike in the regular games. I’ve even lost money to aways. I think that players that are away at the start of a hand should not get cards. Last night was worse. A player got up early and then went away and waited for players to go in and then jumped back in when he had a good hand and then raised. They did this at least twice. On one hand I went in only because this player, downwind from me, was away and I thought I only had to play one other player for the pot and then they jumped in and raised at the last second. They had a pair and won the pot. I would have folded if they weren’t away. This tactic may not be technically illegal but to me is cheating and chickenshit. This player went on to win the tourney.
I think they should change the rules so that if you are “away” you simply don’t get dealt any cards, period. Until this is changed watch out for rayadidas5 when you play in the tourneys. |

at 12:06 PM, Sunday January 11, 2009 EST On the subject of away players...there is something that happens in the tournament that is even more ridiculous.
Some players wait until they have a couple grand then sit away in hopes of making it to the final table. This is sad. I have played a number of tournaments and sometimes you just dont get the cards but you see some players who got one decent hand make it to the top 10 or 20 it undermines the players who sat through the whole game and "earned" there spot to the final table. |

I agree with you Jess! How dare they take a vital final table spot from you, which ruins both our days (or maybe just mine :D) |

at 1:12 PM, Sunday January 11, 2009 EST You know Ryan I agree but disagree. For every1 who has read this or will; my opinion is that if your gone for lets say 10 mins then u outta be kicked out. It's not fair to us to see a person place and win $$$ for it. Happened today in the 2500 Daily. One person went away with like 11k in chips and never made it back until elimanated(9th). If you do go away and make it to final table I say u should get no money. How's that?

at 5:26 PM, Sunday January 11, 2009 EST Thanks for all the interest. I could live with Ryan's suggestion that after 5 away hands blinds are imposed. This would eliminate people quickly who don't show up at all and significantly hurt those who leave for long stretches. It wouldn't stop people from hiding and then jumping back in when advantageous.
I still think the simplest solution is to just not to deal cards to aways, blinds or no. They will never win a hand and other players can then just ignore them. |
