at 6:55 AM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST australia and england have had a free public health and welfare system for many decades. we did not fall to communism, and nor shall the USA - its just called looking after your own people, cos hell, you can afford to and you should.

at 7:45 AM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST Panties, you and I don't disagree often, but on this I have to utter words of rebuttal. You can't begin to suggest that a system that works poorly for 20,000,000 Australians and even more poorly for 30,000,000 Canadians is the answer for 360,000,000 Americans. We simply don't have the medical infrastructure to care for the number of patients universal health care would create. We don't have the hospital beds, the doctors, the nurses, or the medical technicians, to deal with your type of system at this time. It is an altruistic goal that is at best a long way from reality at this point in time for us. We are in a depression. The financial burden alone would plunge the U.S. into chaos. I don't think it is an unreasonable goal in the future, but it isn't practical in the present. You're a good lady with high ideals, too bad you can't run for president!

at 7:56 AM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST ha ha, yes i am an idealist, but i have thought on these matters my son, and i know it is probably not a reality in obama's reign, but i guess i would like to see the beginnings of such a 'rich' nation making some steps to looking after its poor and hell just providing affordable healthcare. my point i guess: is just because you look after your own population's wellbeing does in no way equal communism.

at 8:02 AM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST I absolutely agree that it in no way resembles communism. We here in the US do a lot already for our poor and I believe in time universal healthcare will be a reality....but the key is in time....

at 4:06 PM, Wednesday January 21, 2009 EST Relax Todd. I liked McCain too, but I voted for Obama. Who are you listening to? Most people who voted for him didn’t vote for him because he’s black, or the messiah, or any of those things you mention. They liked his ideas. They liked his campaign. They liked the way he handled himself. They decided he had what it took to be a leader. What’s so illegitimate about that? Sure, there are some wacko libs like you say – they’re part of the problem, but there are also wacko conservatives like you. Your response indicates to me that you’re part of the problem, just like far left libs. You sound like those whom you seem to despise the most. Everything is black and white to you. Everything has a simple answer – conservative good; liberal bad. And, if people don’t agree with your point of view it must be because they’re all idiots. What else could it be? Get over yourself. You’re not that smart or informed as evidenced by your posting, so what you say on the subject can, by many, be easily ignored as hot air. Take a deep breath, stop parroting O’Reilly and Rush, not that they don’t have good points once in a while, and post something worthwhile like “what’s with this f**king lag?”
